Humanscale's Smart Ocean Task Chair incorporates 1kg of fishing nets and is the only chair to use ocean recaptured plastic. In partnership with Bureo, the nets are recaptured, processed, molded into chair parts and assembled into chairs. The more chairs we manufacture, the less discarded nets enter the ocean.
Smart Ocean and our Float Sit Stand solution were awarded the Living Product Challenge, which is the highest standard and most rigorous test of sustainability. It was brought out by the International Living Future Institute(ILFI), and requires manufacturers demonstrate that they are doming more good than harm for 20 different criteria.
